As far as front suspension goes, when replacing certain parts, What do you need an alignment for?

I know when doing the tie rod ends you need one, but what about ball joints, or the front struts?... I ask because the steering u-joint has to be done, and I'd like to lump in a few replacement parts with this as long as I'm getting an alignment. So, anything that doesn't require an alignment, I'd like to postpone.

I know the struts need to be done and possibly the ball joints and tie rod ends. I haven't tested them yet, but they're as old as I can remember.
