The unfortunate thing about these online discussion boards is that the tone of the conversation doesn't carry over very well. For example, I thought I was offering some pretty neutral and potentially useful input to this discussion, and by your response to my post, I now have the impression that you're irritated with me or with something I've said. Causing irritation isn't my intent. Hope we're not off to a bad start.
Anyway, sounds like your contact with Robert has been different than what some other folks have reported. That's cool. I hope everything turns out well.
The 140 series didn't go into production in 1968; it went into production in 1966, alongside the 122. The 122 was produced until 1970. There wasn't a 1978 122.
If you like what he's doing, by all means, go for it. It's your car and you should absolutely make it the way you want it. With my own 122, I've certainly done some things to personalize it and make it just what I want from an old Volvo. Except that it doesn't get very good mileage.
And it does, in fact, have some bits from Ace Hardware (Home Depot, too). But that doesn't mean that I've barely kept it on the road using marginal or ill fitting components, and doesn't mean that it's not pretty well prepared for its intended use.
