cheap / easy fix for broken wiper lever? 200 1983

Several months ago, something in the wiper lever switch broke, and the lever had no stops. No big deal until more of it broke, and the lever does not operate the wipers at all now. It just hangs useless at the bottom of the slot.

The only replacements I've seen have been about $150. I really can't spare that unless there is no alternative. Has anybody figured out a cheap working solution? I haven't taken it apart yet (seems like that wouldn't really do me any good. just need to replace it with something)

thanks
Joy
