M40 on the bench, what would you do? 444-544

You might find that the bearings are way more difficult than you want to get into. And rarely fail. Specifically, the front main shaft bearing.

Replace what you must, but don't get into removing any gears. Sure, it's not that hard... but it's not easy either. Just take the cover off, make sure everything looks good inside.. it should at 130k. Change the easy seals and gaskets..

clean the outside and paint it, change the fluid, and be happy!
