Replacing the battery would not affect the light wiring. As stated by Nel621, you need to inspect the switch for a loose wiring connection, and a loose switch. Do not turn it round and round any more. If the switch body is loose this will twist the wires and could cause worse electrical issues.

If the switch body is snugly mounted and does not move, but the shaft/knob turns completely around (a full circle) the switch has failed.
