Reliability of CIS FI 200

I'm about ready to start an 850 mile trip & return in my '80 242DL with the B21F & M45. Have made many long trips with her but am beginning to get concerned about the FI system, especially when I hear horror stories about failures of these systems. I've had it looked at by my local dealer some time ago. He cleaned the airflow sensor & I've had the accumulator replaced some time ago. Never replaced the pumps or the relay. Only have 139K mis. on it so is my concern about the FI unfounded? Is there any way to check the reliability of the pumps? Anything else I should do before the trip? -Everything else seems to be OK but most problems I've had, like alternator & water pump crapping out, seems to happen when I'm 500 miles from home! Am carrying a spare fuel pump relay. Rest of engine is fine.

Thanks for your help.
