Apart from a few buzzes and rattles that I'm tracking down one by one, my 68 Amazon daily driver is nearly at the point where I'd consider it an absolute pleasure to drive. The main remaining issue is the front seats, which are terrible. They were obviously reupholstered at some point, and the "new" (i.e. 20 year old) vinyl is splitting. But worse, they're really uncomfortable if I'm driving for more than, say, an hour. I've already replaced the worn-out webbing with Ron Kwas' spring kits, which helped but not enough to make the seats actually comfortable. And the lack of lateral support makes cornering an adventure, to say the least.
So I'm trying to decide whether to try to rebuild them as stock, or to replace them with something more modern. I'm reluctant to swap in modern seats because I just can't see how to make them look right with the rest of the car. But I'll do that in the interest of being able to ride comfortably over long distances.
Before I go down that road, though, I'm curious to learn whether anyone has tried rebuilding their seats using stock cushions. Did the ride improve significantly? Obviously everyone's posterior is different, so I'm just hoping to get impressions - particularly from folks who use their cars on a regular basis and/or drive long distances in them.
