Intermediate shaft on a 740 - does its alignment matter At All? 700 1990

Hi there. I'm finishing up my cam seal replacement. Unfortunately, I scored the sealing surface but I'm hoping I installed the seal deep enough that it won't be a problem. Otherwise, it'll be a new camshaft, I think.

Anyway, that's not what I'm trying to resolve right now.
The cam and cranks are easy to line up, but the intermediate shaft's mark is covered. I haven't removed much, definitely not planning to do the timing belt right now, so I can't see the mark.

I have a cam-driven distributor. What does the intermediate shaft turn? The oil pump? Anything else?

Cheers
