740 engine interchangeability 700 1989

Hi all,
here is my dilemma:

I just purchased a 1989 740 GL wagon with a 5 speed that has a seized engine (run out of oil).

I have the opportunity to buy an engine from a 92 740 AUTOMATIC wagon.

1) Will this engine work as a replacement?

2) are there any differences I should be aware of that will create problems?

3) are the specs of the newer '92 engine much different to the old '89 engine ?

Any help and advice you can offer would be great appreciated.
