Continuing valve noise(?) saga 700 1988

hey guys.....I'm getting valve noise/piston slap ????? after doing my first timing belt job a few weeks ago on a 1988 740 gle b230 8valve with a m-47.

I'm the clown that screwed up the rope trick.

I never had this sound before on either of my 740's during the last 15 years.

I took off the valve cover ....and even though I wasn't sure what I was looking for all looked ok with the cam lobes and the top of the valves as it was manually turned with the 24mm socket at the crank pulley.

I've been driving the car.... and recently got back from driving her hard ......60 to 70 mph for 6 hours out of 8hrs on a back and forth jaunt.

got 25 mpg for the trip.

The noise seems to occur or get louder when I step on the accelerator at all speeds below like 2,200 rpms and not too bad when idling.

Much louder/deeper when accelerating from low rpms in all gears

Can being a tooth off on the belt or timing alignment cause that problem?

I'm getting ready to order buy some new manifold bolts since I'm trying to free up some time to take it off and view #1 cyclinder's vlave for damage....what would be NORMAL???? What should I see?

Funny thing was that the noise (when idling) seems to be coming from other cylinders as well not just the front one (#1)where rope fiasco occured.

Thanks in advance

-Mark
