940T Wagon has slightly cracked gas tank nipple...what to do? 900

Hi all,
I have a beloved 1993 940T wagon that got a thumbs down during an inspection because of a crack in a plastic nipple from the gas tank to the rubber gas hose. My mechanic says there is no way to epoxy glue the nipple and the tank must be replaced.
It is of course not worth the time and money to replace the tank so does anyone have any ideas how to seal off the vapor leak from the plastic nipple?
Would like to keep the car for the use of my college-age daughters to drive to work in during the summer months.
