When you check the timimng is it steady or does it jump around ? Does your timing light blink at a steady rate or does it miss a beat once in a while ? Are the timing light flashes consistant if you hook the light to cylinders 2-4 ?

Does it run any better if you use fresh gas and gravity feed the carb ?

Points and a carb makes for a pretty straight forward system.
