I bought this car new in 1980. Plain Jane 4 speed. 2 door. I've always loved that it's stayed in the family. In '85 my Dad bought it from me when his car was stolen and drove it until 2004.
I got it back when he went into elder care. Nearly three years ago (Jan of 2010) after a long series of hard starts, I took it to a local European Car Specialist a neighbor with a similar vintage 240 had recommended. This was not my daily driver so I told the mechanic to take needed time repairing it. I was in no huge rush-- and if I could save money by helping find good OEM parts online, better yet.In fact, I may have gotten some advice for resources from some of you good people. Soo, about a YEAR in, the mechanic did have it running, so before I was to pick it up, he kindly put it through the car wash. I was told that water got in (as the seal around the window had loosened over time) causing stall outs which revealed more problems. Anyway--fast forward ANOTHER year; by now the car needed to be smogged for registration.. Getting the car to pass the test took for ever, but was finally achieved. LO and FRIKIN' BEHOLD-- by this past Nov 1st the care was-- dare I even think it-- FINALLY ready and running. Cost me a grand.. They had replaced the fuel pump, the prepump, the sending unit, the fuel pump relay, the harness, replaced the fuel tank and run wires for the bypass.
Ran okay for three weeks. I've been starting and driving it every two- three days.
Well----Now (as the subject line suggests)--I cannot get it started; engine simply wont turn over.Battery's okay.
I've called the shop, sound like they'll send their tow to pick it up after the weekend and they'll address it. But really.. after all this time I'm starting to think I should sell my sweet old girl to someone like one of you who will adore and maintain her him or herself. I love this car with all my heart, which is why I decided to get her repaired in the first place, but I'm not a mechanic. She's in pretty sweet shape for her age, dark green, beige cloth interior. I'd appreciate any of your thoughts and input..Thanks.
