Replacing Starter On 240****HELP!!!!**** 200 1992

This worked on my *740*, but I'm not sure it will work on a 240.

I was pulling my engine, and I found that with the driver's side motor mount removed, and the engine sagging a bit on the driver's side, there is plenty of room for a shallow socket on a standard ratchet between the starter bolt and firewall.

This way, you do have to remove the motor mount though.
To remove the motor mount without an engine crane, you can put a floor jack under the rear driver's side CORNER of the oilpan, with a piece of wood (necessary, do not omit unless you want a "holy" oil-pan) for cushioning, to lift the driver's side up and remove the mount. Take care not to crush anything, especially the distributor cap, and not to stress/stretch any wiring.

Before doing all that though, I would try Art's suggestion.
