Hey everyone. This is on my 90 740T
So, the following is going on. I expect people will suggest bad grounds in the cabin. Please let me know where they may be, if that's what you think the problem is.
The following is happening:
*My seatbelt chime sounds strange, like it's being powered by two sources, with the headlights on - sounds normal with them off.
*My temp gauge is twitchy, and often reads low, even though the car is warmed up. I recently opened the temp gauge and found a voltage regulator with dried up thermal paste on it. I'm interested in getting a digital temp gauge that reads instantly (You know, one that's better than an idiot light).
*The instrument lights dimmer works normally for the cluster lights, but backwards for the vent control and shift indicator lights. That is, when one gets brighter, the other gets dimmer, and vice a versa. Max instrument lights - no other lights in the cabin. No instrument lights, everything else is lit up well.
*My gas gauge also stopped working properly - it used to work perfectly, then I replaced the in-tank pump. I don't think I damaged anything, but a few months to a year later, my gas gauge stopped going above 1/4 tank, then 1/8th, then it would max out at about 1/16th, but would drop if I was very low on gas. Recently, it's just been completely dead.
*The factory EQ has backlights on its adjusters. These are now illuminated with the key off and removed. I've never noticed this before, and It's not uncommon for me to sit in my car in the dark for a minute before heading inside.
The EQ has always been tapped directly into the black and red wires that feed the stereo directly.
Also, does anyone know where I can find bulbs for the in-dash lighting?
I recently removed the cluster and cleaned all of its contacts. I also pulled out the bulb-out light bulb because it's been on for almost the entire time I've had the car.
ALSO, I recently found that the sunroof fuse's fused-side is cross-wired to the main/aux fuel pumps fused-side, and pulled the fuse out. The EQ lights being on is new since then, but replacing it didn't change anything.
Cheers
