83 245- The problem with locking keys in your car. (a solution) 200

The past month I have locked my keys in the car twice. Its the 3rd time since summer. With the earlier cars that allow you to do this quite easily its a real pain if you can't get that coat hanger through a cracked window. Up until now I've always been able to fish a coat hanger through the half inch window opening and get snagged on the pull up lock lever to get in. This time it was cold outside and I had just finished pumping gas when a quick snack beckoned me to lock my door and head inside the station. Two hours later and $45 service fee the tow company had me inside. That was after I went home and tore apart my room looking for the spare. In the process I found a key to my old 83 sedan that got crushed in 2004 and two keys to my 86 Sedan parts car but no key for my daily driver.

Anyways there is a reason for this post besides wasting your time. The very next day first thing I went and had two copies made. I purchased a hide-a-key magnet box and found a great place to hide it under the hood. I'm not going to tell you where exactly for obvious reasons. But if I were to advise someone on where to put it I'd suggest somewhere you can reach it without popping the hood, without having to reach under too far, in a place that it won't be able to fall out, and is accessed through a round hold.

Essentially what I'm saying is that I found the perfect spot for a spare key box to reside. Not hanging upside down and not visible. Its such a great spot that I had to encourage anyone else out there with the same problem to search out this spot. You won't have to climb under the car to reach it either. Its just a quick under and through. I don't think anyone could have designed this spot any better for this purpose. For years I kept thinking there had to be a spot near the battery but it wasn't near there. My problems are over with locking the key in.

PS> A month ago Iocked them in while at the DMV. I so happened to have parked in a stall where someone had littered a hanger. The hanger I had tied to the back bumper wasn't working for some reason but the one I found worked really well. Don't hope to find a stray hanger and get a couple spares.
