Help with windshield rubber seal 444-544

My rear and front windshield rubber gaskets have the split for the chrome strip but have no chrome strip. The corners of the rubber seals do not fit tight. It looks like the chrome strip normally holds this tight against the windshield. These were installed new before I bought the car and are still brand new. Is there a rubber strip that I can insert in the groove to tighten the seal or do I need to purchase new gaskets and chance breaking the glass? Thanks in advance for any help. Larry
