Stiff shifter on M46 200 1986

I recently replaced the auto tranny on my '86 240 with a sweet M46. Over the past few weeks, I've noticed that the shifter is "sticky" when the handle is shifted from on gear to another. It's almost like if the base of the shfter under the boot where it joins up to the ball were lubed with grease, it would shift smoother. I recall that there are 2 fork like bars that extend off the front of the shifter into the tranny that might use some lube too, but those go into the body of the tranny. Otherwise, all is clean and problem free. Any suggestions? Thanks.
