real world mpg in a 92 240 200

hi sages- got curious and looked up the epa gas mileage for a 92 240 wagon with a 5 speed od stick. surprised that its rating was lower than expected. it was 19 city and 26 hwy. said real world average was 23.7. mine is so equipped and in good condition and has 223k. it consistently gets 25 in the city. dont know hwy mpg since it is only used around town. guessing it would get 30 hwy since it would be in od most of the time. do i have unusual mpg for this vehicle which is kind of heavy? uncle moe is not surprised. says this car has a device on the air intake called the air mass meter which is constantly sending messages on air condition to the ecu which leans or enriches the fuel mixture as needed. tells me it is a sensitive device and when it blows to hell the fortune a new one costs will wipe out any mpg savings. is this on the level? thanks tons oldduke
