transmission code 114 $4,500 S90-V90

If your trans is stuck in "W" mode it would be taking off in 3rd gear as already stated. It may cause some of the slipping, especially if uphill on take off. My mode switch W-S-E was not lighting up when pushing one of the 3 buttons. I found that the switch was not even plugged up. So you could unplug it & the trans would still shift. Sure sounds like you have an electrical problem, hard to tell not knowing the history on your tran. The dealer will try to pull as many $$$ from your wallet as they can. They'd rather put a new trans in over electrical troubleshooting. Yes, you could buy another running car for that $4,500.
