Reverse light switch 200

What year is your car? Is it the yellow one you posted? I might be confused but I am thinking that it is fourth gear, drop out the over drive switch, you are talking about.

Isn’t the reverse light switch under the shift lever boot? There is a guide bracket under there plus the stick has a screw that adjusts too. It has been a while since I seen that stuff!

Only thing that brought my eyebrows up was the fact that you said you used a rubber and cork gasket. That would not have been my choice of material to seal in ATF.

A real thin paper type of gasket or better yet some aviation sealing compound called “TiteSeal" would have been my choice. The stuff is manufactured FOR the Radiator Specialty Company; you know the Liquid Wrench people, so they have nothing to do with it and that is why it works so well.

I bought it from a buddy that is a small (Joe citizen) plane mechanic who swears by the stuff and not at it. He has only seen it through a Chiefs Aviation parts house at his airport store but I looked it up online and it is obtainable through them, I think.

How thick was that gasket material? I am thinking that switch probably gets lifted when the shaft is rotated and pushed forward. Combined with the copper gasket thickness the switch may have been pushed up too far! You would think it would have more range of travel than that wouldn’t you? I would remove the copper washer first and coat the threads with your favorite sealant.

Post back as I am curious about all this, but not enough to go peeking at my cars for the answers. (:)
