Howdy everbody.
I've finally actually removed the throttle body to clean it for the first time I can remember. Maybe I did it when I was 17 too, but I'm not sure as that's 8 years back.
It's clean, but there's a gap between the plate and the walls. The gap is there with the stop screw backed all the way out. I have a feeling I need to adjust the switch, but I don't want to just jump to doing that if there's supposed to be some tiny gap.
My feeler gauges won't quite fit through the gap because it's curved and the blades are flat, but it looks like it's about the size of 3-5 sheets of paper thick. I can clearly see light through it.
The idle would drop when the mechanic pressed on the throttle stop plate. I realize now that that may have been pushing directly on the throttle switch. Yikes.
And yes, I'm sure it's the TB that's causing the high idle. The intake gasket is <1 year old and the idle has been like this since the engine swap. I've sprayed cleaner all around and can't find any other source of leaks. It goes up to about 1100-1300 once the car is warm, even if warm-restarted.
There was a little evidence leakage from the gasket, so maybe it was as easy as a slightly leaky gasket.
