programm selector switch vs. mode selector switch

Please can someone tell difference between two.
some say that they are the same.
But when you look at table of transnission trouble codes
there is 114 code for programm selector fault and 124 mode selector fault.

if these are two different codes how come some members refer me to one part (W-S-E)

if there 2 different codes there should 2 different parts that table refers to.

what is programm selector and what is mode selector???

and i know what gear selector switch is.
