I wrote the following post then had a brain cell fire off and remembered the 940 FAQ, so I'll go review that now. Sorry for not reading that first. For anyone inclined, though, your advice regarding my situation would be appreciated...
Here's my situation. I'm need advice on what the minimum maintenance items are I should do. My '94 940 needs a major service. My mechanic, who I trust, has advised me that all belts, the plugs, wires, cap, rotor, hoses, etc. need to serviced. This is not unexpected. The car is in good condition for a '94 but I'm hesitant to spend $1000 to have everything done, even though that might be the best choice. I no longer will feel comfortable driving the car knowing the timing belt needs to be done and think that at a minimum I will have that done. What other things really should be done?
Brakes were done last year, all fluids replaced 2 years ago, battery is fairly fresh.
I drive about 8K miles per year.
I would prefer to spend the minimum at this time that would enable me to safely keep the car going for another year. What do you all think I should have done?
I haven't done any of my own work but, thinking out loud now it occurs to me that I could probably replace plugs, wires, cap and rotor myself and that would save a bit.
It's hard not to ramble. Wish there was a coffee shop I could go to where I could sit down with a bunch of volvo experts and have a general discussion about all my questions.
