Glad your dad is OK, but in the back of your mind, have you given any thought to how this accident happened? Your dad was T-boned on the right side when making a left turn -- that would indicate (not knowing any other details, mitigating or otherwise from your account) that he cut in front of oncoming traffic, which usually is a matter of judgement:how much time did he have or how fast was the oncoming vehicle coming at him, was he clear to procede all the way through the intersection or did he have to stop partway through for pedestrians in a crosswalk, etc.).
I don't know how old you are, and therefore how old your dad must be, but I think about this issue of "older" drivers a lot around here because there are a lot of aged drivers (retirement communities) in this area. Not that they should have their licenses taken away automatically (I'm getting up there myself, being retired and old enough to be collecting medicare and socsec, so I think I'm entitled to talk about this more than a younger person), but I see a lot of examples of bad judgement among them.
Not intending any offense, but your dad and your whole family deserves you taking a hard look at his driving skills, if only to be sure that his judgement somehow had no part in the crash.
