'whoop' noise on moving away from stop (in 1st gear - manual trans) 200 1991

Hi!

Test drove son's '91 244 (w/ M47 5-spd manual and somewhere north of 300k miles) while he was home for Christmas and noticed a "whoop" or "hoot" kind of sound when starting out in first gear. The sound seems to be coming from underneath the center of the car.

The car makes the noise on taking up drive about half of the time. Today I replaced the driveshaft center bearing and support, along with the motor and trans mounts with OEM parts, but that had no effect. Could it be that the rubber disc that joins the rear of the trans to the drive-shaft is worn out?

Any ideas or insights are appreciated!

Thanks in advance!
