CR-712 Aux plug?... 200 1989

Ive got an 89 245 with no radio... Well, I found the old CR-712 with a jack from an old Alpine CD changer. The Alpine cable plugs into the EQ connector, not the Amp... So, my question is, before I tear off the end of the old Alipne plug and solder in an aux jack, how do I go about finding which wires are which?... Also, is radio shack the place for that aux jack plug?.... I assume I splice in the female aux jack and leave that connected to the wire that goes into the EQ plug on the back of the CR-712... Then get a male to male aux plug from that to the iPhone or iPod.. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Or have any advice?
