Help with wheel sizing and cross reference

I have a '91 740 and got a really good deal ($200) on 4 used Gislaved winter tires (almost new) mounted on Saab wheels (seller didn't know model). Tire size was perfect 185/65-15. Had them mounted on 4 rims from 740. Now I want to sell the rims. The sticker is still on the wheel rim - size 15x6, and when I looked up Hayes wheel 40834 found the lugs are 5-110. Couple questions - the Volvo 740 is 5-108, could have I used these on my 740, close enough? My guess is no. Secondly, I want to post these on Craigslist to get rid of them & am trying to find a cross-reference. I find compatible 5-110 for makes-models (mostly Saab, Saturn, GM), but I have to know the wheel diameter too, and most it doesn't list. Another question - the sticker clearly shows 15x6, but when I measure the wheel, the diameter is over 16" (not 15), and the wheel width is not 6" but is nearly 7". Is this like 2x4's, which are more like 1 1/2in. by 3 and some inches? If so why?
Thanks.
