I would oddly argue the opposite. Dropping the pan is no easy feat on a 240 but not impossible. That being said, bottom end problem with these motors pretty much only happen with low oil pressure...usually from an oil pickup tubed o-ring failure.

On the head, the machine shop does not really need to do much unless you have excessively high miles. Plane if necessary, replace the valve hushers, check the vale clearances and done. I would have them tank clean it but most shops insist on it anyway.
