Are bulb fail relays interchangeable from 90's 240 to 940

I lost brake lights on my 1993 940 T and found out it was a bad circuit in the bulb fail Relay. So, I had a few laying around and assumed they were interchangeable as they look almost identicle, except for the plastic guide pin on the 240 relay, so I snapped the guide pin off, put it in the relay socket of the 940 and thought I was good to go. However, after seeing the car go down the road, I noticed that the lights seem to be lighting up in a different sequence, and I have a bulb fail light on. Thanks!
