Happy New Year -- no charge 200

Happy New Year, folks!

Driving to work today in my '90 245, glanced at the voltage gauge.... 11 volts.

Turned around, drove home, attached charger. (And shoveled the snow off the spare 245.)

Pulled alternator, dropped in another one (used but last known to work).

Still 11 volts..... about 2-3 volts at the D+ connector, running or not (key on). Then this idiot (me) noticed, no idiot lights.

So I looked through the FAQs here... it suggests that I have a problem in the cluster.

Any hints from you smart guys? (Notice I didn't say "wise guys".....)

Should I plug in my soldering iron?
