740 speedometer no longer working 700 1991

As you say you have already done repairs to the rear wiring, it seems most likely to be the speedo itself, which is the now infamous Yazaki, that needs attention.
Most shops no longer touch these; I did find a shop in Sacramento that knows them well and has been used so far successfully by another BB'er.
