Starter button 444-544

Hey all,

Did the 12V conversion on my newly acquired '58 444 and tried to set up a push-button start. I put a new oem Volvo ignition lock (with real Volvo keys!!) and want to save those from twisting if I can. Cut the armored cable and ran a 12ga wire to the + terminal of the new Bosch Blue 12V coil. I am running into the following issues (I'm not really sure of the terminal designations on the back of the stock switch):

1st - ran 10ga wire from the "ign" terminal (at "9 o'clock if you look at the rear of the switch from under the dash) to the button then from the button to the ammeter terminal (3 gauge cluster on my car). Previously, the wire went directly from that ign terminal to the same ammeter post. I still need to turn the key into the return spring before the button works, and I get no power to my fuse box unless the button is pushed.

2nd - ran 10ga wire from the "off" terminal (at 12 o-clock looking at rear of switch), and I could operate the starter without the keys being near the car. Not good. Also didn't get power to the fuse box unless I pushed the start button.

I know why I'm not getting power at least, as the start button is causing an open circuit between the + battery cable at the starter and the fuse box. Currently, that power cable runs to a post on the ammeter and then to the starter switch (same post the fuel gauge power comes from) and then to the fuse box.

Any other ideas on how to install the start button where it will work with the key in the ignition? I can't see how I can do this and still fire the coil. I have the starter push button on my firewall for checking the timing. Should I tap into that somehow?

Thanks in advance
