Thanks for the info, guys.

I thought about the ballast resistor, but he coil was the original one from 1958 and 220K miles, so I wanted to update it.

Unfortunately, it's likely my ignition switch is no good any more. It gets stuck in the "start" position and has a distinct "hitch" in it when turning it from "off" to "On/ACC" position. I tested it with the new key tumbler, the old one, and with a screwdriver, so it's the internal part of the switch where the issue is. The coil is getting no signal from the switch right now.

I'll replace it with a universal one for now to see if that solves the problem, then maybe mess with the push button starter. Hopefully I won't have to bite teh bullet and get the whole armored setup from a 12V car...at $500+. o_0
