harmonic balancer replacement 700 1987

"I still don't think the harmonic balancer is removed when doing a timing belt. The timing belt slips over the HB."

I my mind's good eye, it could be done with the Balancer Pulley in place, assuming the belt could be fitted in behind the Balancer. But I believe the Balancer would obscure the true TDC indicators from view, that being the alignment of crank sprocket tooth with the ridge on the seal holder casting.

In that case, the TDC setup would have to rely on the upper cover 0° mark and the less reliable mark on the Balancer rim, which may have slipped.
