Rear end interchange 1800

Hello,

I hope the following will clear up all the confusion.

To begin with, the following only refers to Dana rear axles.

All Dana 27s and Dana 30s with rear drum brakes use 10 spline axles.

The posis are different between the 2 Danas.

Dana 27 Power Lok posis are fairly common as they were used in Jeeps and other brands. You just have get or fabricate a centering pin to use 1 in a Volvo.

Power Lok posis for Dana 30 with drum brakes are rare as only Volvos made between 1966 and 1970 could use them.

Power Lok posis and a lot of other brands for Dana 30 with 27 splines are easily available. Although I do not know if a centering pin, which is necessary for all Danas with rear drum brakes, could be installed on any of the other brands other than a Dana.

FYI, the only difference between the 2 Dana 30 Power Lok posi are the side gears.

So custom made axles could be made so a fine spline posi or fine spline standard Dana 30 could be used in a Dana 30 with drum brakes.

A very long time ago, I contacted Dana about making new 10 spline side gears for both the stock differential and for the posi and they said sure, just order 10,000 pieces of each type.
