Quick question,
Background info:
My trusted mechanic changed the Harmonic Balancer that was failing recently. I had him replace the tensioner as well while he had everything apart. The Timing belt has about 30,000 miles on it and looks and feels pretty new still, so I opted out for changing it this time. Everything went perfect, he used the crankshaft tool and aftermarket parts from FCP that I sourced for him. He also changed the water pump.
it squeaked at first but after but now it seems smooth and sounds good, all other belts and pulleys are tensioned and all seems fine.
From the FAQ page, it recommends - " After a couple of hundred miles, remove rubber plug in timing cover, loosen tension roller and rotate crank CW 2X again and tighten" I read somewhere else also to do this adjustment after about 500 miles.
Question: Do I need to do this tensioner adjustment even if everything seems tight ? No timing adjustment was made at the time of the parts swap, also if the belt is already a bit old, wouldn't it already be stretched to the now current tension?
If I do need to do this adjustment, how do I rotate the crank 2X ? by hand ? or can I just unplug the ignition coil connector and turn over the starter for a sec ?
