Valve gear on a B 18 444-544

Can't remove the lifters: they seem to be coked badly on the lower ends, and I can't pull them out. OK to send the block to the machine shop hot tank and have them boil it to loosen things up? What about remove the cam and hope the lifters will fall out toward the bottom? They move freely when the cam turns.

How to pull the fiber cam gear? I don't want to destroy it (lash was 0.004, which isn't the worst thing in the world) and new ones aren't cheap...

Thanks to all!

Al
