Ball joint or something else? 200 1984

About 10,000 miles ago, the front passenger side of the car started to make a metallic "clunk" noise going over bumps. Now I get a noise and a vibration from that side with every rotation of the wheel. The vibration feels like a wobbly tire (loose lug nuts) but I checked the lug nuts and they are tight. Here is where it gets strange: The vibration goes away above 40-45 mph AND any time that I apply the brakes.

Now, I know better than to drive for 10K miles with front end issues, but I guess laziness got the best of me.

I am going to jack up the car this weekend and take a look. It needs struts anyway.

Is this likely to be: The lower ball joint, a loose tie rod end, or maybe the strut cartridge is flopping around?
