Aftermarket clutch master = Krap? 120-130 1968

Good evening rollers,

This past fall, just so I could drive my 1968 123GT a bit while diagnosing and planning the resto project, I installed an aftermarket clutch master (said to be made in Germany). Adjusted it per Haynes. Worked perfectly.

Over the weekend I was on a yard drive (checking to see if the parking brake would stop the car) and the pushrod (which activates the piston when force is applied by the clutch pedal) snapped in half. Loud as a gunshot. Not only had the pushrod snapped, but the C-clip that holds it against the piston pulled free.

I replaced the pushrod with one from an original Girling, and an hour later, the pushrod pulled free again.
The rod did not snap, but I am not pleased. Seems poor quality is to blame.

1. Any similar experiences (snapping a clutch master pushrod) with either aftermarket of OEM?
2. Do you think the extreme cold could have influenced (low single digits)?
3. If I want a reliable clutch master, seems that re-sleaving my original Girling with stainless or brass would be a good idea - any sources for this?
4. What is the most reliable solution here?
