bottom bolts on auto gearshift assembly 200 1993

Anybody ever had to tighten the 3 bolts that hold the gearshift to the bottom of the cup it sits in? Any advise on tools and/or approach? I'd rate those as in the catagory of getting the oil return line off the bottom of the turbo on my 92 740. I was able to get some long needle nose to snug them slightly but I just know in 19 years they'll be loose again. I supposed it would be easy just to drop the driveshaft right there to get to them. Anybody done that?
Thanks,
Robb
