Windshield gasket shriveling on edges: Glass folks want to replace windshield 200 1993

'93 245 225k miles

The rubber gasket around the front windshield has shriveled up around the corners....and I don't want water leaking into the cabin. The Binswanger and Safetelite autoglass folks don't want to replace the gasket. Instead, they want to replace the whole windshield.

Any others had this problem and remedy?
