The engine runs very smooth now with a new intake manifold gasket. But .....
there are two pesky problems that have surfaced since the new gasket:
1) The car idles a bit higher....it's been cold here in Atlanta, the temperature has been in the low 30's....don't know if that has anything to do with it or not...at stop signs and red lights, the engine is smooth as silk, but I can tell that the engine is idling a bit higher that it did before the intake mani gasket was replaced.
2) As I'm coming to a stop, the transmission down shifts a tad bit harder than it used to. Don't know whether this is due to item #1 above or whether the kick down cable is messed up. (I removed the accelerator and kick down cables from the throttle spool when replacing the intake manifold gasket.) The car shifts perfect and the passing gear works fine when accelerating. My suspicion is that the kick down cable is not the issue.
3) When I start the car the engine revs WAY high and then comes back down. It used to rev up a bit and then subside to the normal idle, but after the intake manifold gasket replacement, the engine revs up really high at first. Then it comes back down to the tad bit higher idle issue described in item #1 above.
Did I put the accelerator and kickdown cables on the throttle spool backwards or something?
