Hi Everyone,
I have an 88 wagon. No idea how many miles, don't want to know. I've had occasional ignition problems over the past 6 years of owning this car. Ignition control unit was replaced 4 years ago. I've also had some funky wiring problems with the plug for the ICU, but that seems to be resolved - for now - I think.
I parked it a couple of weeks ago and it hasn't started since. For a while, when I would leave it alone overnight it would start and run for a few seconds then stall out and not even try to restart unless I left it alone for a day or so. Now, nothing. The starter turns it fine, but no start and for the most part, no movement from the tach needle. (Earlier today, it chugged a bit like it wanted to try to start and the tach needle bounced around a bit.)
Though I had my doubts, the coil resistance was a little off, so I went ahead and replaced that to no avail. (A cheap shot in the dark.) I'm not getting any voltage off the hall effect sensor terminals which tends to make me think that's my prob, but I can't shake the fear that it's somehow related to the ICU. I don't really understand precisely how the two interact. (The ICU is literally a "black box" to me, I haven't found any info on how to test it. Anyone out there know?)
Meanwhile, my wife is gently suggesting we send the 'ol beast out to pasture. I'm not ready to give up on it yet though and am afraid anything I'm able to afford right now is likely to have it's own problems. "The devil you know..."
Help!
Darius
