Momentary Stalling/Stuttering at speed 700

Hi,
I have a Non Turbo 1990 744 , low Km's/Miles which has developed a stutter in that the engine seems to stop and then start up and run quite fine for a bit and then do it again , not all the time just some of the time when driving at speed ?
My first thought is , something electronic or ignition ??
Any suggestions please,
