tail light lens restoration? 200

The tail lights on my 1990 240 sedan have a scuffed/cloudy appearance, and I'm wondering whether this can be polished out, or whether I will need new rear lights soon. All of the products that I can find are for restoring clear plastic headlights, but it's the red plastic on the tail lights that's the problem. Should I try a plastic polish? Does anyone on here know a good way to deal with this problem? I'm hesitant to just experiment with something, because if I make them worse, even used rear lights aren't at all cheap. Or maybe I should just not worry about it, but in the absence of any significant mechanical problems I tend to start fiddling around trying to improve the car's appearance. Thanks. David.
