Intake hose and flame trap kit '88 245 200

Noobeee again :) Yet another issue with the 1988 245 DL
I noticed a hose that's 'not connected' and was able to determine it's the air intake hose. Not sure if it needs to be replaced but I'm thinking it needs to be secured, somehow.
So, I ordered air intake hose, and flame trap kit. Which of course brings me to questions - can I replace any of these (skill level virtually zero!) myself?
I'm guessing at a minimum I need to at least 'secure' the hose (either the old one or the new one) even if I should attempt flame trap kit.
Tools needed? Anything else I 'should' replace at same time?
In this situation, any photos or step-by-step directions would be really helpful and appreciated :)
Thanks again!
