fuel pump housing, how fragile, how to pull out? 900 1995

1995 945, single Bosch in-tank pump.

All of the hoses to the pump housing are removed. Large plastic screw ring is removed. Wiring harness disconnected and free.

I haven't been able to pull the main assembly out of the tank. I can fit a screwdriver in the gap between the pump housing and tank, but the plastic is near 20yrs old, and I'd prefer to not crack it via vigorous prying..

Is there a "best" way of removing the housing? Should I run a space heater in the back of the wagon for a while to get the housing temperature up above 12F?

Also, related, do I need to siphon the tank dry of gas before re-install? I'm guessing the tank is 1/2-1/4 full.
