I guess he could blow some air in there from the filler neck and that would push it to the rear or left side corner.

If the gas tank was lower on gas it would be down lower from the top opening and more in the field of vision.

Less than half a tank might be a problem as there is a round pot looking baffle in the center that it could hide behind though. The sender unit sits down inside of that.

Fishing, I guess car repair can turn into a sport at times!
