Battery light popped on 200

daughter's 1992 240 sedan, 260000 miles. Driving home last night in a sleet storm, the battery light popped on and wavered, voltmeter showed 13.8 volts while driving.

Car has had charging issues in the past with the wiring harness under the engine shorting out. I reran individual wires from the alternator to starter, alternator direct to the negative battery terminal, and small red wire direct, bypassing the gray connector on the firewall.

When it stops rain/sleeting I'll go out and check voltage in engine bay with voltmeter and look for disconnected wiring, as well as verify the voltage reading with the plug into the cigarette lighter volt meter.

Any other thoughts appreciated.
